Insight into the Economy of the Republic of Congo

--

In addition to agriculture and subsistence hunting, the Republic of the Congo’s industrial sector heavily relies on the extraction of petroleum and support services.
Despite having a large potential for natural resources and mineral wealth, the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s economy has severely deteriorated since the 1980s; as of 2019, its gross domestic product was $48.994 billion.

The GDP shrank by 0.2% in 2021, which was less than the 6.2% contraction it saw in 2020. As a result of job losses during COVID-19, the unemployment rate was predicted to be 10.3% and the poverty rate to be 46.1% in 2020. Following a deficit of 1.7% in 2020, central government activities produced a budget surplus of 1.4% of GDP. 🇨🇩
